White House Turns to eSports Fans in Obamacare Campaign | eSports

eSports hit the White House blog with a YouTube video to promote Obamacare to what it claimed are 31 million American eSports fans.

The video, a collaborative efforts of eSports industry leaders ESL, Twitch, and GEER, features Wargaming League commentator Randal “Ruukil” Holcombe, ESL creative producer Joshua “Clutch08” Gray, Geoff “EGINcontrol” Robinson of Evil Geniuses and his wife and Team Evil Geniuses Manager Anna Prosser Robinson, all pointing the way to a very simple call-to-action: enroll to Obamacare by its deadline of February 15.

This campaign is another testimony to the increasing recognition of eSports as an influential player in the lives of young Americans. The fact that the White House and Obamacare release a promo video four days before the call-to-action’s deadline says a lot about the expected responsiveness of eSports fans to what active eSports community members have to say.

However, after one day, the video has just above 27,000 views (far from the intended 31 million eSports fans), and there are more dislikes than likes on the video. Moreover, scanning through the comments, most of the eSports fans aren’t buying into the promo. It’s filled with mostly negative reactions to the White House effort. It’d be interesting to know how many gamers and gamer fans actually go sign up to Obamacare based on this campaign.
