theScore eSports App | eSports

theScore eSports app launched this week to fill a hole in the eSports world: an Android app with live event notifications, score updates, links to Twitch and YouTube streams, as well as in-depth editorial coverage from a staff of 15 eSports journalists, including renowned eSports veteran journalist Rod "Slasher" Breslau.

theScore claims that it is the best way to follow breaking news and live scoring coverage from today's leading eSports games (listed below), and also expects to add more games soon:

  • League of Legends (North American, European, Chinese and South Korean regions)
  • Dota 2
  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
  • Call of Duty
  • StarCraft II
  • Hearthstone

With CEO Benjie Levy overseeing a team of 15 full-time journalists, 10 developers and technical staff, as well as a selection of freelancers, theScore is definitely a large investment into the improved quality of eSports coverage.

Moreover, from a larger perspective, if theScore progresses along the lines it has begun, then theScore app's entrance into eSports culture would mark another significant moment in the history of eSports' evolution toward becoming as widely well-known and respected as sports. Once again, an eSports enterprise rises, as if, from the ground up in an arena that could have easily been an add-on to any existing sports coverage service. Why did it take theScore to do what it's now doing, when it could have been added as another department of ESPN, CBS or FOX?

More features of the app include push notifications of breaking news alerts where you can get notified in real-time about your favorite games, teams and players. In its initial phase, you can also sign up for League of Legends live scoring and notifications alerts for match starts and ends, and game starts and ends.

As expected in an app of this scale, there will also be tables of the latest standings, leaders and team and player profiles.
